Future plans

The National End of Life Care Intelligence Network (NEoLCIN) was launched in May 2010. The information provided on this website is just the start of a wider programme of work with partners that will develop over time.

Future plans include:

  • analysis of data quality on place of death by age, gender, ethnicity, social deprivation, geographical location and cause of death registered on the death certificate (Office for National Statistics);
  • analysis of hospital episodes ending in death (Hospital Episode Statistics);
  • analysis of hospital resource utilisation in the months preceding death (Hospital Episode Statistics/Office for National Statistics);
  • analysis of hospice/specialist palliative care service utilisation in the months preceding death;
  • analysis of social care utilisation in the months preceding death;
  • analysis of health and social care resource/cost utilisation in the last three, six and nine months of life.
